These are the few pictures I got before they made an announcement that if you didn’t have permission to take pictures (which I didn’t), you’d be thrown out of the market. And I could not have that happen! *laugh*

PS to the Dishpaw Raggers – The box is now enroute to MT. Yay!

Taken at Stitches Midwest. Can you tell I was having a good time?

The Stitches market was incredible! And overwhelming. I almost didn’t end up buying anything because there were so many choices. But I managed to persevere *laugh* and found two ball of sock yarn. (I finished the first pair last night and will be casting on for the second pair sometime today.) I also got a cute pattern for a knit chicken.

I attended the Knitter’s/XRX books fashion show and they have some really great stuff coming out this fall. There is a new book that I’m thinking about buying when it’s released and we got a sample pattern at the show.

Throughout the day there were various demos. I went to one about a Japanese style of braiding that the woman demoing has modified by adding beads. She makes beautiful beaded necklaces and bracelets with this technique. The other demo I went to was about weaving with all those scraps that are leftovers after projects. That demo wasn’t as interesting really, but it gave me a couple of ideas.

One of the best things about the day for me was seeing all these people knitting. These are like-minded people who don’t see my hobby as “cute” or “quaint”. Made me wish I’d brought my knitting along with me so I could have sat down and shared.

The best advice I had before going was to only bring cash. I did leave the debit card in the car and that was a good idea because it would have been a huge temptation to overspend. It was also good to have my own tote bag with a nice long shoulder strap. Next year I hope to attend a couple of market classes (at the very least) and maybe spend a couple of days there checking out different things. I now understand why fiber freaks make a pilgrimage out of Stitches every year. *smile*

…with anticipation.

There are two events in my planner that I’m really looking forward to.

The first is Stitches Midwest. While a giant fiber market with all sorts of yarns and other fibery goodness thrills me to my toes, I also get to see my family again. I do take advantage of the few opportunities I get each year to make trips up to see them and do whatever official thing actually brings me to the area. And this trip really is all about pleasure. There might even be a stop at Ikea in the works. DH is likely to also get a growler of some tasty brew from a local microbrewery/brew pub.

In the beginning of September is the meditation retreat. I’m nervous in some ways, because it will be strange to spend 10 days without a computer, phone, knitting, books, etc. Yet I’m really excited about the possibility of creating profound change in my life. I have no idea what to expect except for long periods of meditation while we learn the technique. My pillow has arrived and my meditation bench is on the way. Other than that, there isn’t much preparation to do. (And how will I survive all that time without blogging?! *laugh*)

So, that’s what’s going in my life. How about you?
