I was looking at my cable remote last night. Guess what! I have DVR. Yes. I’ve had this for 3 months and just discovered it. Oops. Maybe I will keep my cable for a bit longer. Until my rate goes up…unless I can negotiate to keep the same rate. I have been enjoying some of the free movies offered through On Demand. Last night I watched West Side Story (which I do own, but it’s in KS) while finishing the sleeves on the baby sweater.

The baby sweater will be going to a woman at the college who recently gave birth to a baby girl. I just have to decide on how to finish up the neck area and what type of closure to use. It’s been a pleasant project to work on and I might go digging in my stash to see if I have some cotton yarn to make up another little sweater.

I made up a couple of breakfast things last night. This morning I got up early to pop a scrambled egg bake in the oven. I taught for almost 4 hours straight this morning and knew that I would need some good fuel to keep me alert. This was just right. The recipe is from WW. I also make another WW recipe – blueberry rice pudding. I might start the morning tomorrow with that. It will be a another early and busy morning for me. I’ve decided that I need to do a bit more daily planning for my meals so I don’t get way off track. I’ll be heading home between work and class tonight to make burritos.

Well maybe it wasn’t buckets, but Marley and Me was such a sweet movie that I couldn’t help shed a few tears…especially towards the end. I also laughed a lot because some of it was so familiar. Like the part with the drywall eating. We had a dog who did that once!

I took my driver from last week out to lunch today at the furniture store here in Kewanee. No, it wasn’t a picnic. The store has a wonderful restaurant in its lower level. While we waited for a table, we wandered around the shop down there. I saw some cozy looking socks that I might have to go back for some time. I have a great love of wool socks. I’d have more if I ever finished the pair that’s still on my needles.

I took care of grocery shopping after lunch and the movie. It was strange being without a car last week and I feel like I’m finally getting myself reorganized. I’ve felt rather scattered most of this week since I knew the laundry was piling up, the fridge needed to be cleaned out, and my apartment hadn’t been properly cleaned for a couple of weeks.

Tonight I’ve been finishing up laundry and watching Miss America. The main reason I like the pageant is for the dresses the women wear. There is a small part of me that likes all the glitter and glitz.

The other big thing I’m doing is staying warm. It’s in the low single digits at the moment and isn’t supposed to be much warmer tomorrow. I think tomorrow may be a good day for reading and hot tea. I might finish up my hanging towels also. And I plan to make some meals ahead for the week. It’s nice to come home from work and not have to worry about making a complete meal from scratch. My Aerogarden has enough lettuce now so that I can start having some fresh salads. Yum!

I have finished knitting the heel flap on Sock 2 of Pair #1. (Sorry no pictures yet!) I will be turning the heel – maybe tonight. After getting the gusset done, it’s pretty much smooth sailing/knitting to the toe. Depending on how busy/tired I am this weekend, I will probably have a complete pair of socks by Sunday night.

Time to wind the next skein of sock yarn. It also might be time to stop by the LYS for some thicker yarn for warm winter socks.

Can you believe it’s mid-August? Looking forward to sweater and wool sock weather.

In moving news, I’m almost moved into my studio. Actually slept there on the air mattress last night. After that I’m really looking forward to having a regular bed! I’ve been unpacking things as I bring them over and am fairly settled already. One great thing about a small space is you have to be very selective about what you have. There is a large outdoor light outside my sleeping area window and I’m considering getting blackout curtains for that window. It’s nice having my own space here. I am sitting with my decision not to get cable, so I’ll either not watch tv during the week or I’ll watch movies.

Our Walmart now has a Redbox in it and I’ve rediscovered the joy of renting $1 movies. While I still like Netflix for those hard to find things, I like being able to drive over to Walmart and grab a movie quick. Seems like a decent selection of fairly recent stuff. And you can reserve online. (Okay, I’m starting to sound like a Redbox commercial.)

We did 14 tours for international students today at the library. I was responsible for organizing all of this and I’m very pleased with how smoothly it flowed. I’ve already shown you the brochure I designed. In addition to that, they also received 50% off coupons for the library’s coffee shop. I was glad we got to participate and hope that this will continue. There are some other follow-up things that I’m planning, but I’m sure that it will be less students than we saw today.

Tomorrow, I’m off to pick up a gift book collection for the library. Between all the teaching and everything else this fall, I’ll have another gift collection to process. It’s going to be a busy fall around here.
